🌙 The Legend of Janmashtami – Why We Celebrate Lord Krishna’s Birth
Help your sister or brother enhance their daily prayers with:
Janmashtami, or Shri Krishna Janmotsav, celebrates the divine appearance of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, born over 5,000 years ago in Mathura on the Ashtami tithi (eighth night) of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada.
According to the scriptures, the world was under the torment of Kansa, the cruel king of
Mathura. A divine prophecy warned him that his sister Devaki’s eighth son would be his
destroyer. To prevent this, Kansa imprisoned Devaki and her husband Vasudev, killing their first six children one by one.
But destiny could not be stopped.
On the night of Krishna’s birth, the prison doors miraculously opened, the guards fell asleep, and the river Yamuna parted to allow Vasudev to carry the newborn across to Gokul, where he was lovingly raised by Yashoda and Nanda Maharaj.
Lord Krishna’s life became a saga of dharma, devotion, and divine love, culminating in his pivotal role in the Mahabharata and delivering the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna.
